Mercedes finally unveiled the 1000hp hybrid hypercar.
One thing is for sure, it doesn’t have the same bravado and exquisiteness as the other hypercars like the Ferrari LaFerrari. The most edgy thing is the fin running down from the roof to the rear wing.
This is AMG’s attempt at the modern hybrid hypercar set up. According to Mercedes it has the same 1.6 Turbo charged engine from the same car Lewis Hamilton raced in 2015, it really is an F1 car for the road, a road car that will rev to 11,000 rpm and reach a top speed over 350 km/h. Back to the engine, we know its from an F1 car but how does it work and how do the electric motors come in? Well heres how it all comes together, the petrol engine is intelligently to one electric motor for the two rear wheels, another motor is connected to the turbocharge to eliminate lag and the other two are up front for the front two wheels that revolve up to 50,000 rpm, thats right it’s 4 wheel drive. I hope I didn’t lose you there.
The interior seems like it’s still very Mercedes like, very composed, refined and comfortable for hypercar standards. There are two 10 inch screens, one behind the steering wheel for the driver and one in the middle of the upper centre console. The two seater road racer has an electric range of 25 km and will do 0-200 km/h in 6 seconds, thats faster than a Bugatti Chiron.
The Project One is another insight into what the future holds for Mercedes’s electric and hybrid vehicles.
